Well-respected US Judge resigns in disgrace amid pornography scandal

NEW YORK - A veteran US Criminal Court judge has resigned in disgrace after investigators uncovered pornography on his courthouse computer.
Judge James D. Gibbons, 47, who spent 14 years as a prosecutor before moving to the bench, submitted his resignation on August 17 after last week’s shocking find.
According to a law enforcement source, Gibbons was busted after a computer-monitoring system in the courthouse red-flagged his terminal.
While working in the Manhattan district attorney’s office, Gibbons was well known as a whip-smart lawyer in street crimes - prosecuting rapists, robbers and murderers.
“He was a very careful judge on the law,” the New York Daily News quoted lawyer Adam Freedman as saying.
“If he was using his state-issued computer for illegal activities, it would be uncharacteristic, considering how careful he is on the law,” he stated.
Court spokesman David Bookstaver was asked if there was a law enforcement investigation.
“If we become aware of possible criminal activity, we report it to the appropriate law enforcement authority,” Bookstaver replied. (ANI)
