Blagojevich jurors end day without verdict

CHICAGO — Jurors deliberating the corruption case against former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich have ended a sixth day of deliberations.

Jurors went home Wednesday without announcing a verdict. Earlier in the day, attorneys and prosecutors agreed on instructions that would be read to jurors if they convict Blagojevich of racketeering.

If that happens, the jurors may have to go straight back to the jury room to deliberate about what financial penalty should be levied against the ousted governor. Convictions on the other 23 counts would not involve such a process, called forfeiture.

Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to charges including trying to sell an appointment to President Barack Obama’s former Senate seat.
