Lawyers for 9/11 responders defend firm’s conduct
NEW YORK — The lead lawyer for thousands of Sept. 11 responders has acknowledged that his firm made mistakes in preparing some claims, including assertions that some people have cancer when they didn’t.
But attorney Paul Napoli says the few errors that occurred happened at preliminary stages of the case as the firm rushed to meet court deadlines.
He says it won’t have any bearing on the final outcome.
Napoli’s firm is coordinating lawsuits filed by more than 9,000 ground zero workers who say New York City knowingly sent them into toxic conditions at the World Trade Center.
The Associated Press reported Sunday that some of the first cases headed toward trial contained inconsistent or exaggerated information about worker health problems.
