Fan files suit over seats from old Yankee Stadium

NEW YORK — A fan who paid $2,000 for the seats he sat in during 23 seasons at the old Yankee Stadium is crying foul.

John Lefkus says the memorabilia company Steiner Sports threw him a curveball by sending a pair of seats that were so thoroughly refurbished they are no longer authentic.

Lefkus filed a $5 million class-action lawsuit on Oct. 20 against Steiner and the Yankees charging his seats had been repainted and given totally different armrests.

When the seats were removed after the end of last season, the backs and bottoms were tagged for identification.

But Steiner says there was no system in place to tag the armrests. Owner Brandon Steiner says he offered to refund Lefkus’ purchase.

Lefkus lives in New Jersey.
