Another petition seeking Karachi handover to Pak Army filed in Supreme Court

QUETTA - Another petition seeking the handing over of Karachi to Pakistan’s Armed Forces has been filed in the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry.
Filed by one Rana Ilumddin, the petition stated that Karachi’s security situation was worsening and that was reflecting badly on the country’s economy, the Dawn reported.
It had become necessary to call the armed forces in aid of the civil authorities to help flush out criminals from Karachi in order to ensure the security of the innocent citizens there, the plea added.
It further requested that the armed forces should be called in for a period of three months to restore law and order and re-establish peace in the Pakistani metropolis.
This was the second such petition, which was filed in the Supreme Court this month.
Earlier, Advocate Tariq Asad had filed a petition under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, and made the federal government, through the Interior Secretary, Interior Minister, Sindh Chief Secretary, Sindh Home Secretary and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, respondents in his petition.
He requested the court to direct all the respondents to issue a Proclamation of Emergency under Article 232 in Karachi, and call the armed forces under Article 245 of the Constitution to act to aid the civil authority, until the criminals were eliminated.
The petitioner pleaded that Karachi be handed to the Pakistan Army, and the Interior Minister be sacked for failing to maintain law and order in the economic hub of the country. (ANI)
