Pakistan’s bar association elects its first woman chief

ISLAMABAD - Supreme court advocate and human rights activist Asma Jehangir Wednesday became the first woman to be elected president of Pakistan’s Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), a media report said.

Asma Jehangir bagged 834 votes against 796 votes secured by her closest competitor Ahmed Owais in a nationwide poll Wednesday, Geo TV reported.

President Asif Ali Zardari, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, former president Pervez Musharraf and MQM chief Altaf Hussain felicitated Asma Jehangir on her historic win.
