GANDHINAGAR - Security has been tightened in Gujarat ahead of the Ayodhya verdict by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Thursday.

The state’s borders with neighbouring Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have been sealed with the border police and the Coast Guard maintaining round-the-clock vigil, a government spokesperson said.

State police, Rapid Action Force, home guards, state reserve police and other para-military forces have been deployed in major cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and other centres having past record of communal disturbances.

The Quick Response Teams of the state police are already on the streets in the sensitive areas, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, advocates of the Ahmedabad metropolitan court, rural courts and other courts in the city decided to stay away from the courts Thursday.
