Ex-AG to be questioned in lawsuit over his tenure

WASHINGTON — Fallout continues from the politically tinged firings of U.S. attorneys in the administration of George W. Bush, with former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to undergo questioning Monday in a civil case against the Justice Department.

The lawsuit involves instances in which political views became the basis for hiring practices during Gonzales’ tenure.

Unsuccessful job applicants say they deserve to be compensated because the department under Gonzales used political reasons to screened them out from an honors program for career attorney positions and for summer law intern positions.

Handling the lawsuit is attorney Dan Metcalfe. The American University law professor says he will question Gonzales about destruction of records by former aides.
