Jackson doc seeks dismissal of wrongful death case
LOS ANGELES — Attorneys for the doctor charged in Michael Jackson’s death are seeking the dismissal of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the singer’s father.
Attorneys for Dr. Conrad Murray sought the dismissal in a motion filed Wednesday in Los Angeles.
The documents ask a judge to dismiss the case on the basis that Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, did not have the legal right to file the case on grounds that he’s not a beneficiary of the estate.
The Jackson family patriarch sued Murray in federal court on June 25, the one-year anniversary of his son’s death. He claimed the doctor acted negligently by providing the pop singer with a mix of sedatives, including the anesthetic propofol.
Murray pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in criminal court.
