Official: Housing czar’s lawsuit a ploy for money

PHILADELPHIA — The embattled director of the Philadelphia Housing Authority is trying to leave his job with a golden parachute.

That’s according to former Mayor John Street, who serves on the agency’s board.

Street says a lawsuit filed against the housing authority by Director Carl Greene is a ploy for a severance package, not a sincere effort to keep his job.

Greene is on leave after revelations of personal money woes and a string of sexual harassment complaints. His lawsuit alleges breach of contract and violation of due process.

Street said at a news conference Wednesday that federal prosecutors have subpoenaed agency documents and that more women are alleging sexual harassment by Greene.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is also auditing the agency.
