Jury orders Calgon Carbon to pay $12M in lawsuit

PITTSBURGH — Calgon Carbon Corp. said Thursday that a federal jury in Pennsylvania has ordered it to pay $12 million to coal technology company ADA-ES Inc.

The judgment stems from a lawsuit over a contract awarded to Calgon Carbon in 2008 to supply products to the electric power industry.

Calgon Carbon, which makes water and air purifying systems, disputed a claim by ADA-ES that it had earned a commission for the contract based on a memorandum of understanding between the two companies that was terminated in 2007.

Calgon said it plans to appeal the verdict.

Shares in Calgon Carbon fell 42 cents, or 3.1 percent, to close at $13.19.
