Blagojevich prosecutors done quicker than expected
CHICAGO — Prosecutors wheeled so much documentation into court each day at Rod Blagojevich’s corruption trial it was easy to believe it might take them two months to present their case.
The estimates were wrong.
Prosecutors rested their case against the former Illinois governor Tuesday after presenting just more than a month of evidence.
Legal observers note judges are more likely to be upset if attorneys say they need a month and end up taking two.
But Blagojevich’s attorneys say prosecutors simply didn’t have the volume of evidence they claimed to have.
Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to scheming to sell or trade President Barack Obama’s former Senate seat and plotting to launch a racketeering operation in the governor’s office.
