Brewer asks Obama for Arizona border plan details
PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is telling President Barack Obama she’s anxious for details on how his administration’s plans to tighten border security will apply to Arizona.
Brewer tells Obama in a letter released Thursday that she’d like specifics on National Guard deployments and other steps to be taken in Arizona before a planned Monday visit to Phoenix by Obama administration officials to discuss his plans.
The meeting is an outgrowth of Brewer’s June 3 visit to the White House, where she and Obama discussed border security and immigration.
Arizona’s controversial new immigration law is scheduled to take effect July 29. It requires officers to question a person’s immigration status if there’s a reasonable suspicion that he or she is in the country illegally.
