Jets fan tries to revive suit over NFL ‘Spygate’

PHILADELPHIA — A New Jersey lawyer is trying to revive his NFL “Spygate” lawsuit against the New England Patriots over their secret videotaping of signals by New York Jets coaches.

Carl Mayer says the taping during the season opener at Giants Stadium in 2007 violated his rights as a Jets season ticket holder.

A federal judge had dismissed the suit. Mayer will argue his case Wednesday before an appeals court in Philadelphia.

He charges that the Patriots violated federal racketeering laws and state consumer protection laws. He seeks about $185 million in damages on behalf of ticket holders.

The NFL fined Patriots coach Bill Belichick and the team and stripped New England of a first-round draft choice.

The Patriots won the game 38-14.
