NEW DELHI - A Delhi court Saturday ordered the police to register an FIR against Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani, writer-activist Arundhati Roy and five others for making anti-India speeches at a conference here Oct 21.

According to an order by Patiala House Court, the others against whom the First Information Report is to be registered include Delhi University professor S.A.R. Geelani, who was acquitted in the 2001 parliament attack case, and Sheikh Showkat Hussain, a professor of Jammu and Kashmir University.

Metropolitan Magistrate Navita Kumari Bagha said that she was not satisfied with Delhi Police’s explanation for not registering an FIR against Arundhati Roy and other speakers at the conference, titled ‘Azadi - the only Way’ here.

The Patiala Court also directed police to file a status report by Jan 6, 2011 in the case.
