11 high court judges transferred

NEW DELHI - In a major judicial shake-up, 11 judges from six high courts of Allahabad, Punjab and Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Bombay and Orissa were transferred Wednesday.

The transfers were approved by President Pratibha Patil.

Justice R.S. Mohite who was transferred from Bombay High Court to Patna High Court has resigned.

Three judges each have been transferred from the Allahabad High Court and the Punjab and Haryana High Court, two from the Delhi High Court and one each from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the Bombay High Court and the Orissa High Court.

Justice V.M. Sahai, Justice Poonam Srivastava, Justice T. Meena Kumar of the Allahabad High Court were transferred to the Gujarat High Court, the Jharkhand High Court and the Patna High Court respectively.

Justice Ashutosh Mohunta, Justice Vinod Kumar Sharma and Justice H.S. Bhalla of the Punjab and Haryana High Court were transferred to the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the Bombay High Court and the Orissa High Court respectively.

Justice S.N. Agarwal and Justice Aruna Suresh of the Delhi High Court have been transferred to the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the Orissa High Court respectively.

Justice D.S.R. Verma of the Andhra Pradesh High Court has been transferred to the Allahabad High Court.

Justice M. Jayapaul of the Bombay High Court has been transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Justice Bhabani Prasad Roy of the Orissa High Court has been transferred to the Kerala High Court.

All of them have been given 15 days’ time to join the new courts.
