Ayodhya verdict should not be deferred, say many Hindu, Muslim groups

NEW DELHI - Even as the Supreme Court Bench is considering a plea that parties in the Babri-Ram Janmabhoomi title suit should resolve the matter in an out of court settlement, Hindu and Muslim groups called upon the apex court and the Government that the matter should not be allowed to linger on further.
A day ahead of the Supreme Court hearing the plea for deferment of Babri-Ram Janmabhoomi title suit, the Darul Uloom Deoband called upon the Supreme Court and the Centre to ensure that the matter was not allowed to linger on anymore.
It apprehended delay in sorting out the Babri-Ram Janmabhoomi title suit.
Talking to a leading daily on Saturday, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the leading Islamic seminary, Maulana Abdul Khaliq Madrasi said that “a delayed verdict will only vitiate communal peace and harmony apart from generating an atmosphere of mutual mistrust.”
“Moreover, this issue has been kept alive for last sixty years which is a long enough period. Therefore, it was time the matter was sorted out,” he said and added, “we certainly do not want it to needlessly prolong for another 10-20 years”.
Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) had called upon the court not to procrastinate the issue any further.
Speaking on behalf of AIMPLB, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangimahali, Naib Imam of Lucknow said that “stalling the judgment at the behest of a third party when both main parties to the dispute eagerly await justice is inappropriate. The Board, therefore, hopes that its sentiments will be respected and heeded”.
AISPLB president, Maulana Mirza Mohammmad Athar said that “hoping for an out of court settlement at the eleventh hour is too impractical a proposition. Both parties have already expressed their willingness to accept the verdict and move on to the next step, any bid to put the matter on hold hardly makes sense.”

Meanwhile, even Hindu seers were against deferment of verdict.
In Haridwar, an outfit of seers on Monday demanded the verdict on Ayodhya title suits should be pronounced at the earliest and said that it should not be deferred further.
The Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti, at its meeting here, alleged moves were afoot by some parties, including the Centre, to delay the verdict in view of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
The seers said though the verdict by the Allahabad High Court would not be the last word on the matter as the losing party would certainly move the Supreme Court, the judgement should not be deferred.
A number of sants and seers, including Shankaracharya Swami Madhvashram of Badrinath Peeth, attended the meeting.(ANI)
