Respect verdict or settle Ayodhya dispute amicably: Congress

NEW DELHI - Refusing to comment on the dismissal of a petition seeking deferment of the Sep 24 verdict by the Allahabad High Court in the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case, the Congress Friday said either the dispute should be resolved amicably or the court verdict should be respected.
“As you know the matter is pending in court. The party does not comment on cases pending in courts,” Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said here.
“The Congress stance has been that either the issue gets resolved through mutual understanding and coordination, or the verdict of the court will be acceptable,” he added.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Friday dismissed a petition seeking deferment of its Sep 24 verdict in the long-pending Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case.
The government Thursday appealed to the people to maintain calm after the Sep 24 judgment, saying any party not satisfied with the verdict can go for legal remedies available under the law.
Dwivedi said it was the government’s responsibility to see that no untoward incident happens and that is why an appeal was issued.
A three-judge special bench of the Allahabad High Court is scheduled to pronounce the verdict in the title suits relating to the decades-old legal dispute Sep 24.
