NEW DELHI - The Delhi government Thursday informed the Delhi High Court that its third juvenile justice board (JJB) to decide cases involving delinquents will start functioning within a month.

It also submitted that the building for the board is complete and other requirements like recruitment of staff and installation of equipment would be complete within two weeks. A JJB consists of two social workers and a magistrate.

The detailed information on the new board was submitted by Delhi government counsel Najmi Waziri before a division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan.

The bench July 5 directed the government to constitute the new board by Sep 15.

At present two JJBs are functioning in Delhi. One is at the Sewa Kutir Complex in Kingsway Camp in north Delhi and the other is at the Prayas Children Home Complex in Delhi Gate in central Delhi.

The new board would be coming up at Sewa Kutir in Kingsway Camp. The government also informed the court that in the last one year the existing JJBs have disposed 772 cases out of the 2,519 pending cases related to minors.
