NEW DELHI - Citing security reasons, the Delhi High Court Wednesday dismissed a petition against the closure of the Siri Fort Sports Complex till the Commonwealth Games were over.

The court rejected the petition filed by over 100 members of the complex who challenged the decision of the complex secretary to close the venue from Aug 16 till the Commonwealth Games end Oct 14.

The venue is to host events like badminton and squash matches during the Games Oct 3-14.

The members had demanded immediate reopening of the complex as an interim measure, allowing people to use the jogging tracks, children’s park and the football ground. More then 70 percent of the members of the complex are retired and use the complex for engaging themselves in various activities.

The court has, however, instructed the authorities to reopen the venue to members within a week after the Games.
