Jurors begin day 3 of Palin e-mail deliberations
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A federal jury has begun a third day of deliberations in the trial of a former University of Tennessee student accused of hacking Sarah Palin’s e-mail.
The six women and six men are considering four felony charges against 22-year-old David Kernell. The jury in Knoxville deliberated about six hours Wednesday, their second day behind closed doors and resumed the process Thursday morning.
Kernell is charged with identity theft, wire fraud, unauthorized access to a computer and obstruction of justice.
Palin’s e-mail was hacked shortly after she was picked in 2008 to be on the Republican presidential ticket.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Weddle said he is “not encouraged or discouraged” by the deliberations going into a third day.
