PANAJI - A man, facing trial for raping a British woman, was granted conditional bail by a fast track court Friday.

Lourenco Dias, 32, was required to pay Rs.25,000 and a surety of similar amount before being released on bail.

Dias was arrested Jan 11, 2008 for raping the woman, after offering her a lift while she was returning from a classical music concert at night.

He had raped her in a secluded area after promising to drop her to her house. After evading arrest for a couple of days, Dias was arrested after the police raided his residence on the outskirts of Panaji after being tipped off by his friend.
