GANDHINAGAR - A court in Gujarat’s Rajkot town Monday granted bail to criminal Fazlur Rehman, charged with the kidnapping of two businessmen and an industrialist.

Additional sessions judge C.H.Joshi granted Rehman alias Fazlu bail on a security of Rs 50,000 subject to conditions including submitting his passport to the court within a fortnight.

Rehman was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Rajkot-based businessmen Bhaskar Parekh and Paresh Shah in November 2000. The two were rescued by the police but the gangster eluded them for long.

Rehman, a graduate hailing from Darbhanga in Bihar, is wanted in numerous other cases in Gujarat as well including the kidnapping of industrialist Gautam Adani from Ahmedabad in 1998.

According to police, Rehman assumed a fake identity and came to Ahmedabad to “negotiate” Adani’d release while working for another Dubai-based gangster, Irfan Goga.

Rehman was arrested by the Delhi police in August 2006.
