Father of NY terror plot suspect gets bail
NEW YORK — The father of a Colorado airport shuttle driver accused of plotting to attack New York City with homemade bombs will be allowed to leave jail pending trial.
A Brooklyn judge on Wednesday signed off on a bail deal for Mohammed Wali Zazi (ZAH’-zee). It requires him to post $50,000 bond and be subject to electronic monitoring at his home near Denver. He is expected to be released Friday.
The government alleges his son, Najibullah (nah-jee-BOO’-lah) Zazi, and others bought beauty supplies to make peroxide-based bombs. It says he tried to mix the explosives in a hotel room near Denver, then drove to New York.
Investigators in New York say they lifted notes on bomb-making from the son’s computer.
The father and son have pleaded not guilty.
