KATHMANDU - Nepal Vice President Paramananda Jha who remains inactive after the Supreme Court verdict nullified his oath of office taken in Hindi language will retake the oath on Sunday.

It was not immediately clear whether Jha would take oath of office in Nepali or his mother tongue, Maithili.

As per provisions, he has to inform the President’s Office if he is planning to take oath in his mother tongue.

Jha had been rendered defunct since August 31 last year after he had refused to abide by the Supreme Court order directing him to retake the oath in Nepali language. The Supreme Court had ruled his oath in Hindi “unconstitutional”.

The government has expedited the process for the oath so that Jha could take charge as the acting head of state when President Dr Ram Baran Yadav goes on an official visit to India from February 15. (ANI)
