Garth Brooks sues Okla. hospital over donation

OKLAHOMA CITY — Garth Brooks has accused a Yukon hospital of reneging on a promise to name a building addition after his late mother in exchange for a $500,000 contribution.

A lawsuit filed in Rogers County District Court seeks a return of the December 2005 donation to Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital after nearly two years of meetings with hospital representatives.

Brooks alleges that officials presented mock-ups of buildings bearing Colleen Brooks’ name during the meetings.

The lawsuit says last year, the hospital informed Brooks the donation would be used the way in which it was “earmarked,” and there were no additional discussions.

Terry Thomas, an attorney for Crowe and Dunlevy, which is representing the hospital, declined to comment. A hospital spokesperson didn’t return a call seeking comment.
