Mich. man to face trial in son’s execution-slaying

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. — A judge has ruled that a Michigan man will stand trial on allegations that he forced his naked 15-year-old son into a vacant lot, then shot him to death as he and family members pleaded for mercy.

Jamar Pinkney Sr. of Detroit is charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 16 killing of Jamar Pinkney Jr. in nearby Highland Park.

Corbett O’Meara, Jamar Pinkney Sr.’s lawyer, says the 37-year-old was irate over accusations that his son had raped a 3-year-old girl.

Witnesses say the father went to the teen’s mother’s house, pulled a gun and forced the teen to strip. They say he marched him to the lot and shot him as he begged for his life.

Judge Brigette Officer ruled Tuesday that there’s enough evidence to prosecute Pinkney.

O’Meara says he is pursuing an insanity defense.
