Jury resumes deliberations in Petters trial

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Jurors are back at the federal courthouse in Minnesota for a third day of deliberations in the fraud trial of Tom Petters.

The Minnesota businessman is accused of running a Ponzi scheme that cost investors more than $3.5 billion.

The seven woman, five-man jury deliberated for a total of about 9½ hours last Monday and Tuesday before breaking for the holiday weekend. They’re working through a 20-count indictment and 49 pages of jury instructions.

Petters claims other defendants in the case carried out the fraud without his knowledge, then testified against him in hopes of lighter sentences.
