NY judge temporarily halts Gotti trial

NEW YORK — John “Junior” Gotti’s trial in New York City has been temporarily halted after he told U.S. marshals that he didn’t want to attend.

The reason was not immediately clear. The defense lawyer says it’s news to him.

The judge has called a break so Charles Carnesi (kahr-NEE’-see) can talk to his client.

A trial can go on without the defendant present.

Carnesi had been scheduled to continue his closing arguments Tuesday in Manhattan federal court.

It’s Gotti’s fourth racketeering trial in as many years.

His father, former Gambino boss John Gotti, died in prison in 2002.
