Singapore man gets 18 years in jail for raping daughter

SINGAPORE - A Singapore court Friday sentenced a man to 18 years in jail for raping his teenage daughter, a media report said.

The 38-year-old hawker, who was not named to protect his victim’s identity, will also be given 24 strokes of the cane.

The man raped and assaulted his now 14-year-old daughter several times in her bedroom last summer, the online edition of Straits Times newspaper reported.

The crimes came to light in July this year after the girl expressed her disgust with what her father had done to her in a note written during school classes.

Following advice from her best friend, the girl reported the crime to the school authorities who then called the police, the newspaper said.
