Petition against Kerry-Lugar Bill filed in SHC

LAHORE - A petition challenging the Kerry-Lugar Bill has been filed in Sindh High Court pleading that the bill as it seemed serious threat for sovereignty and constitution of Pakistan.

The plaintiff, Advocate Sohail Hameed, on Friday submitted that the US Kerry-Lugar Bill is against the self-respect of the country, and if the bill is granted to the government of Pakistan, it would weaken the constitution of the country.

Naming the federal government, foreign and interior ministries and others as respondents, the petitioner said that according to the terms and conditions of the bill, the US constitution would be imposed in the country, The Nation reports.

Hameed asked for restraining the ‘respondents’ from violating the ideology of Pakistan by accepting the Kerry-Lugar Bill which is more an ‘act’ against the ideology of Pakistan, as well as constitution of Pakistan, and Islam.

He pleaded to declare the act a clear violation of the constitution of Pakistan, while the integrity, sovereignty, and security of Pakistan are at potential risk through this bill.

He urged that the bill should be declared of no legal effect. (ANI)
