LA juror fined $1,000 in Anand Alexander case

LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles juror has been fined for trying to start a romance with the sister of fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander during his rape trial.

Superior Court Judge David Wesley on Monday said the juror, Alvin Dymally, must pay $1,000 and perform 120 hours of community service.

In July, the judge found Dymally in contempt of court for contacting Alexander’s sister Sanjana. The judge said that during the trial, Dymally sought a romance by talking to her on the phone and passing her a note in the courthouse cafeteria.

Sanjana Alexander also was found to be in contempt of court and has a hearing Friday.

Her brother was sentenced last month to 59 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting aspiring models.
