KURUKSHETRA - Within hours of one section of leaders of the "Khap mahapanchayat" (grand caste council) of Haryana Tuesday announcing that they would defend the six people convicted of honour killing of a young couple, divisions within the ranks of khap leaders have emerged.

KURUKSHETRA - Defiant leaders of various 'khap panchayats' or caste councils Tuesday decided to support six people convicted by a Haryana court for an honour killing and sought an amendment to the Hindu Marriage Act saying marriages within the same 'gotra' or sub-caste should be banned.

KURUKSHETRA - The apex body of 'khaps' or traditional caste councils in Haryana and adjoining states Tuesday decided to extend its support to six people convicted in an honour killing case last month.
