KOCHI - Former Kerala power minister R. Balakrishnan Pillai surrendered before a special court and was sent to jail here Friday, a day after the Supreme Court handed him a one-year jail term in a corruption case.

Special court judge B. Vijayakumar directed police to take Pillai and another accused, contractor P.K. Sajeevan, to the Central Prison. Pillai was convicted in the nearly 30-year-old Idamalayar dam corruption case.
