ISLAMABAD - Expressing its disapproval over fake encounters, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has observed that such incidents had developed a culture of slaying people with indemnity.
The court disapproved of the method adopted by the Punjab Police for reducing the crime rate by resorting to fake encounters, the Daily Times reported.
On a suo motu case regarding the killing of a Pakistani citizen in a police encounter in Gujranwala, a four-judge bench- including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry- directed the Advocate General, Punjab to take up the matter with the IGP for stringent action against those found guilty of having done the deed.
The bench also directed the AG to run TV footage of the incident in the presence of the IGP, RPO and DPO. (ANI)
