BHOPAL - A poster campaign on ‘Voices of the girl child’ was launched here Monday by ‘Thirty-30 Girls’, a school forum set up by NGO Child Rights Observatory (CRO), to mark the National Girl Child Day.
We want to rise higher but there are barriers in the society. It is the support from parents which encourages one to move forward, said Syeda, a student of class nine who was present at the launch.
Another girl Seema, who also designed a poster, said: We are two sisters, but why do people ask my parents why we dont have a brother?
CRO president Nirmala Buch said the initiative was an attempt to encourage more participation from children.
CRO has set up 6 school forums in Bhopal and we plan to expand this to other districts. The girls who have contributed are symbolic of many others who speak out in school forums on issues related to gender discrimination which affect them, CRO’s secretary Dr. Sheela Bhambal said.
Anil Gulati, communication specialist for Unicef’s office for Madhya Pradesh, said this was one of the initiatives to let the voices of children be heard.
