NEW DELHI - Home Minister P. Chidambaram Tuesday said if rights activist Binayak Sen had been convicted wrongly for his Maoists links then it would be corrected through legal ways.

“If he is wrongly convicted, it will be corrected in lawful ways,” Chidambaram said, adding that the doctor-activist has been convicted by a court of law and “those who respect democracy must also respect the processes of democracy”.

The home minister was speaking to reporters while presenting the monthly report card of his ministry.

Sen, 59, was Dec 24 sentenced to life imprisonment by a Chhattisgarh court for sedition and his links with Maoists. The conviction triggered angry reactions from within and outside the country.
