NEW DELHI - Right to Information (RTI) activist Subhash Aggarwal has sought details of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) probe into the alleged corruption in the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games.
In an application filed with the central public information officer of the CVC, Aggarwal has sought details of revelations made in several newspaper and television reports.
The RTI activist has sought details on:
- Probe by the CVC relating to Commonwealth Games.
- Name of the person or authority on whose initiative the CVC began the inquiry.
- Name of the person or authority to whom the CVC has submitted its report, as mentioned in a media report.
- Does the CVC have the power to take up action on its own, including ordering the arrest of the guilty.
- Steps taken at the CVC to effect action and arrest those found guilty in its probe.
The run-up to the Commonwealth Games was marred by allegations by opposition parties and media reports about corruption in the organisation of the Games and delays in construction works.
The union government has appointed an inquiry committee headed by former comptroller and auditor general V.K. Shunglu to investigate the financial deals and expenses related to the Games.
