Security stepped up in Kerala ahead of Ayodhya verdict

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - Kerala heightened security and restricted public gatherings to less than five people Thursday, a day before the scheduled Allahabad High Court verdict in the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute.
“The prohibitory orders (banning assembly of more than five) are already in place in Kozhikode district and would apply in all the districts from tomorrow (Friday) for two days. The district collector has been given the necessary directions to act depending on the situation,” Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters here.
“We are not leaving anything to chance and the police are on the watch to see that nothing untoward happens,” said Balakrishnan.
The demolition of the 16th century Babri Masjid Dec 6, 1992, by Hindu radicals, who believed that the mosque was built on the birthplace of Lord Ram, had triggered nationwide riots.
