NY imam’s wife says he’s fixing NJ buildings
NEWARK, N.J. — The wife of the imam who wants to build a mosque near New York City’s ground zero says repairs are under way at the two apartment buildings that Feisal Abdul Rauf owns in northern New Jersey.
Daisy Khan made the assertion in court papers filed Thursday. Earlier this week, a judge ordered the couple to provide documentation that repairs are being made.
Union City is suing Rauf, alleging he’s failed to address code violations.
The Record of Woodland Park reports that Khan said city officials have delayed permits required to fix some of the violations.
But Union City spokesman Mark Albiez said Friday the city would never hold up permits when the safety of residents is at stake.
A message left for the couple’s attorney, Tomas Espinosa, was not immediately returned.
