NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court Thursday directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to provide basic facilities to 18 families who have volunteered to shift temporarily from their slums near Thyagraj Stadium and Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in view of the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
A division bench of Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice S. Muralidhar asked the civic agency to supply tarpaulin covers to them before they moved to the proposed relocation sites at Prem Nagar Aug 28-29.
The court also said this was a temporary arrangement in view of the coming Games and a permanent relocation would be done by the agency as per the court’s previous order.
The bench also directed the MCD to conduct a survey of the family members of all dwelling units and take their photographs so that it would be easier for the agency to relocate them permanently.
After facing difficulty due to an order passed by the court Feb 11 restraining the MCD from removing any slum cluster without relocating the people, the civic agency filed an application for modification of its earlier order.
