WASHINGTON D.C. (GaeaTimes.com) — Today is the 90th anniversary of the historic 19th amendment to the American Constitution. It was on this day, the Tennessee General Assembly ratified the amendment. Tennessee’s ratification gave the amendment the necessary three fourth state approval and provided the women of America their democratic rights to vote.
The historic amendment contains the following passage:
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
The members of the Democratic National Committee with their recent success in championing the cause of non-discrimination for women, in terms of pay and entitlement of paid sick leaves for them, are singling out this historic day to celebrate.
Apart from that gala event, many apolitical groups are also commemorating this occasion around the country. It seems, the march to victory of democracy that started so many years ago has come a full circle.
