Justice Dinakaran takes oath as the Chief Justice of Sikkim

GANGTOK - Justice P D Dinakaran, against whom an impeachment motion is pending in Upper House of the Parliament , was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court on Monday.

Justice Dinakaran has been transferred to the Sikkim from Karnataka High Court after allegations of corruption were leveled against him.

The governor of Sikkim, Balmiki Prasad Singh, administered the oath of office at a ceremony in the Governor’s house in Gangtok.

Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Chamling along with members of his cabinet was present at the occasion.

After the swearing in ceremony, Justice Dinakaran said his priority is to serve the people of the State.

“Now I am the Chief Justice of Sikkim. I have come here to serve the people Sikkim state,” said Justice Dinakaran.

The lawyers of the Sikkim Bar Association boycotted the ceremony.

The allegations against Justice Dinakaran listed in the impeachment motion included possession of wealth disproportionate to his earnings, unlawfully securing five Housing Board plots, in favour of his wife and two daughters, acquiring and possessing agricultural holding beyond ceiling limit and destruction of evidence during official enquiry.
