Conrad Black due back in Chicago court Friday

CHICAGO — Former media mogul Conrad Black is due back in a Chicago courtroom to hear conditions of his release from prison.

U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve could decide Friday whether to allow Black to return to his home in Canada.

Black was freed from a Florida federal prison Wednesday after serving two years of a 6 1/2-year sentence for defrauding Hollinger International Inc. investors out of $6.1 million.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals this week granted Black bail, pending the outcome of the appeal of his 2007 conviction.

St. Eve set his bond at $2 million and ordered him not to leave the country. She also ordered him to court Friday.

After his release, Black went to his mansion in Palm Beach, Fla., but his lawyer says he’d prefer to return to Canada.
