PATNA - The Bihar government Monday filed a suit in the Patna High Court seeking a review of its decision to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged financial irregularities by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and 46 others.

Court sources said that the government had filed a petition seeking a review of its order on a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities of Rs.11,412 crore.

After hearing a public suit on the issue last week, a division bench of Chief Justice R.M. Doshit and Justice S.K. Katariyar handed over the probe to the CBI.

The court observed that this was necessary as the accused in the case included the chief minister, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and 45 others, including ministers and top officials.

Petitioner Arvind Kumar pointed to financial irregularities in the use of development funds during 2002-2008 in Bihar.

The court has fixed July 26 as next hearing date in the case.
