NEW DELHI - The Supreme Court Monday accepted the resignation of former chief justice A.M. Ahmadi as chairman of the Bhopal Memorial Hospital Trust.
The court accepted the central government’s application to take over the hospital set up for the victims of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.
A bench of Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia, Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice Swatanter Kumar asked the central government to take steps to wind up the trust.
The court placed on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Ahmadi.
Attorney General Goolam Vahanvati told the court that the government has decided to take over the hospital.
Some time ago, Ahmadi had asked the apex court to relieve him of his responsibilities as chairman of trust. He was appointed the chairman of the trust under the apex court’s orders 12 years ago.
