Kashmir Bar Association calls for strike in courts till July 15

SRINAGAR - The lawyers of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association have called for a complete strike in courts from July 12 to July 15.

This strike is in protest against the arrest of the Kashmir Bar Association President Mian Qayoom.

“We are, till 15th (July), we are on indefinite strike. We are boycotting all the courts across the valley. I have been communicated by all the Presidents and District Bar Association heads,” said Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, General Secretary of Kashmir Bar Association.

Qayoom was booked under the Public Safety Act and arrested on July 7.

“This boycott of courts is in protest against the illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional and apolitical detention of Mr. Mian Abdul Qayoom,” added Ghulam Nabi Shaheen.

He also agreed to the comments of General V K Singh, Chief of Army Staff who is reported to have said that that the Kashmir problem is political problem and needs a political solution. (ANI)
