Maine man linked to NYC bomb suspect due in court
BOSTON — A Pakistani man who was arrested in Maine on immigration violations during the Times Square bombing investigation is due in federal immigration court.
Court officials say 34-year-old Mohammad Shafiq Rahman will appear in Boston immigration court Wednesday via teleconference from South Portland, Maine.
The federal government claims Rahman overstayed his work visa.
Rahman, a computer programmer, lives with his American wife in South Portland. He was arrested May 13.
Rahman’s boss says Rahman told him that he knew bombing suspect Faisal Shahzad (FY’-sul shah-ZAHD’), but had not spoken to him in years.
Authorities have said Rahman and two men arrested in Massachusetts may have given money to Shahzad through an informal money transfer network, but may not have known how the money would be used.
