$2 million fine in export of 747s to Iran

WASHINGTON — An aviation firm that pleaded guilty to conspiracy in the illegal export of Boeing 747 aircraft to Iran has been ordered to pay a $2 million fine and placed on probation for five years.

A federal judge imposed the sentence Tuesday on Balli Aviation Ltd., a subsidiary of a British-based firm.

According to court papers, Balli conspired in 2007 and 2008 to export three Boeing 747 aircraft from the United States to Iran without having obtained the required licenses from the U.S. government. Balli pleaded guilty in February in the case.
