Probe sought after Russian adopted boy sent home

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. — An adoption agency says it’s asking a court to launch an investigation to determine whether a Russian boy was abused, neglected or abandoned as a result of being sent back alone on a flight to Moscow by his U.S. adoptive mother.

The Washington-based World Association for Children and Parents filed the petition Tuesday before a circuit court in Tennessee. The agency says it wants a court-appointed lawyer to investigate further.

The agency had placed the boy, now 8, with Torry Hansen of Shelbyville, Tenn. Authorities said a note from Hansen said she no longer wanted the boy because he has psychological problems. He is in Russia.

A lawyer for Hansen, who has not been charged with any crime, did not return a phone call requesting comment.
